Frogdancer has posted with a fun sort of meme, in which bloggers interview one another, asking and answering five questions. Unlike other memes, the questions vary according to the interviewer and the subject — so every one is different.
Bloggers volunteer to be subjects, and then you send them five probing questions by email.
So here are my answers to the five questions Frogdancer asked me. In return, I invite any of you to email me or leave a comment saying ‘interview me’, and I’ll ask you five searing questions.
1. Is it true that Queensland is ‘beautiful one day, perfect the next’, or is that just a great big lie designed to get all of us pale skinned Victorians up there? If you could choose, where in Australia/the world would you live?
The weather here in South Eastern QLD is vastly different than where I grew up and spent the bulk of my life, Perth. Perth has the extremes – the summer heat is HOT and the winter cold is COLD and the wind blows regardless of the temperature. I thought I was ready for the heat in Queensland, – but I wasn’t prepared for the humidity! I met a pale skinned Victorian in sandgroper territory, and we moved here together, so we get many pale face visitors. They love the climate :) (Maybe they love our pool and the beach and being waited on?)
Having said that, I *adore* the consistency here. I am somewhat of a claustrophobic, so wearing as little as possible for most of the year suits me fine. From September 1st to around June 15 we are in shorts and T shirts pretty consistently. Then we have 12 bloody COLD weeks, where the fire is alight and I survive in my Tassie coat and Melbourne moccasins. I love that it rains in the summer ans fine and blue skied in winter. I love that we can have outdoor candles most of the year and they stay alight!
If I could choose anywhere, then where I am now is right for the time of my life I am in. Hubby and I are nomadic, so itchy feet prevail and we’d love to go further north (we have been looking at properties up Jeanie’s way for years). Regardless, my heart lies in the West with it’s spectacular sunsets… and that’s where I would like to retire, home in the West, but more southern than Perth. Somewhere Dunsborough way, or maybe Esperance.. but I must be near the water.

This, I miss.
(I also miss my mum!)
2. If you had all the money you needed, would you still work? Why?
Yes, absolutely. I am very committed to child advocacy and community spirit. Teaching is such a small part of this. If I didn’t need the income, I would love to take my passion out of the school yard and into other child related areas. My ultimate would be to work alongside families who have experienced abuse or violence, with the finance and resources to relocate and support women and children from dysfunctional backgrounds with homes, education… along with tools and lifeskills. To be able to make a difference that was not dependent on government income, one that didn’t question pride or personal choices.
3. What do you feel is the best thing about being a mother?
Unconditional love in both directions. Absolute.
4. Once the renovations are finally done, will you ever do it again?
NO. (I guess that’s pretty strong?) Never to the extent of this one. I would take on a redisign or a smaller renovation, but to gut and rebuild again s DIYers– no. Mind you, if i had the income mentioned above, I could pay people to do it for me ;)
5. Would you ever consider adopting a child yourself?
Ohh. (Hard question, Ms Frogdancer!) Yes. No. I don’t know. I think if I was unable to create a child of my own with my partner, it would have been a path I may have considered, but without having experienced that it’s hard to say. I would (and will) become part of the foster system, as I tend to be passionate about the placement of children in familes affected by alcohol, drugs and violence or other types of abuse. Adoption is such a personal, personal thing, and I can only imagine the pain of having to give away my own flesh and blood. But I also know that that would be the highest, most treasured gift to another.
To really answer the question, the key word is ‘consider’. Yes, I would consider adopting a child if I was approached. But would I do the approach at my age, stage and time of life? No.
If you’d like to join the fun, it’s simple.
- Send me an email or a comment saying ‘interview me’.
- I will then email you five questions that I choose.
- You can then answer them on your blog.
- You should also post these rules along with an offer to interview anyone else who emails you or comments that they want to be interviewed.
Wow what a sunset that is spectacular. No I won’t ask you to interview me because I don’t have the time to give suitable respect to answer, although I did like your answers.
K
Great questions and terrific answers.
I think Queensland is really fabulous. So much beauty and such energy — I love it. I can well understand why you feel so comfortable there!
I knew you’d give great answers! I nearly didn’t ask you the last one, (I had a feeling it might have been a curly one) but then I thought you of all people would be able to ‘man up’ and answer.
Beautiful sunset, by the way.
Wow – that’s so much better than your typical meme fodder. Great questions (and answers).
What a scary concept!
I have been thinking and wondering if I will put my hand up for this very individual meme. Whats putting me off is the thought of coming up with 5 sets of questions for others, who I may or may not know. I spose some could be common, but the richer interviews seem to come from less standardised Qs. Thats the challenge. Do I love that question?
And the answer is…..YES.
Go ahead Shirley, interview me (gulp).
I really enjoyed yours, great questions from Froggie. I’m learning alot about each blogger who features this meme.
Oh, good on you Laura! Questions will be headed your way in the next 24 hours. I want to think carefully before I ask them :) I agree, it’s most interesting and captivating meme.
Oh wow – that last question is a doosey! I’m glad you had to answer first, because it gave me something to agree with lol.
That sunset is divine, too.
Sounds fascinating! Love your answers…..Will I , won’t I, put my nervous hand up? I can always be evasive if I don’t like the questions, right? What the heck! New year, be brave! Interview me!
Well done Rhubarb! And great questions, DWF.
OK Molly the brave, after a great deal of thinking, your questions are on the way. I have to say, thinking of personalised questions for this meme is almost as thought provoking as doing the meme itself!
LOVE that sunset! I can see me watching that, wine glass in hand. Love your devotion to the younger set, particularly those whose experiences with which you are familiar. So important to set right, or at least try, the things we can.
Melbourne moccasins. *snort*.
You know what? I volunteer, Shirley. I’m at a loss for posts lately, and your questions are bound to be ‘good ones’. Ask away, friend!
That’s a great meme
Loving your sunset picture!
I would like to live in that sunset. And I’m *gulp* putting my hand up…
I was not inclined to volunteer, initially, then I thought, challenge myself!
But, I see you have 5 volunteers already so I guess I am off the hook/
great to read your answers to some deep queries. Love that sunset!!
4, meggie, unless I am missing a digit? :)
Got the questions! Gonna post in a day or two with answers.
Wow, look at the glow on the horizon! It’s the flames shooting out of my ears because the e-mail with the questions was deleted by a crash! Any chance that the original e-mail is in the ‘sent’ file and can be RE-sent? >:(
