Diner en Blanc Brisbane QLD

Diner en Blanc – a sophisticated flash mob style picnic. An event where participants gather together in long rows of tables decked out in white linen, candles and flowers. An event held at a location that is kept secret until the very last minute. An event where, at the end of the night, participants pack up, pick up and move out, leaving no trace that over a thousand people had gathered to wine and dine together. An event where everything in the evening must be white – clothes, chairs, table decorations. Everything classic white and elegant.

At the last minute, the location is disclosed to over a thousand registered participants who have been patiently waiting to learn  of the rendezvous space. People dressed all in white, are expected to conduct themselves with the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette, all meeting together for a mass formal picnic in a public space.

The official Diner en Blanc website says  “Le Dîner en Blanc recalls the elegance and glamour of court society, and diners engage one another knowing they are taking part in a truly magical event. There are no disruptions: no car traffic, no pedestrian traffic, except for the occasional amazed and astonished looks from passersby at the scene unfolding before them. And we, as they, wonder whether it’s all not a dream…

Diner en Blanc ~ dining in white ~ began in Paris.  Launched by François Pasquier over 20 years ago, Paris’ Dîner en Blanc now attracts around 15,000 people each year. The French capital’s most prestigious sites have played host to it: the Pont des Arts, the Eiffel Tower site, the Louvre Pyramid, the Trocadéro Esplanade, Place Vendôme, the Château de Versailles, the Esplanade de Notre-Dame, the Esplanade des Invalides, the periphery of the Place de l’Étoile, the Champs-Élysées, Place de la Concorde and last year: The Carousel du Louvre. It is a trend that is sweeping the  world. It was so much fun to be at the first Australian event in Brisbane.
