Human Brochure – I am off to Canberra!

A few weeks back I saw a tweet.

The tweet was encouraging people to register for the opportunity to be part of the Australian Capital Tourism’s “500 Humans” campaign. The Age reports that Canberra Tourism’s $1 million “human brochure” campaign attracted more than 31,000 people from around Australia, with ACT tourism specifically looking for people who were active on social media. Successful applicants are expected to use Twitter, Facebook and other platforms to share their experiences in the nation’s capital.

I can do that. And I WILL BE – for I was one the fortunate 500 people chosen in round one for the ‘food and wine’ stream of the human brochure.  Yahhh and whoo!

“With more restaurants per capita than any other city in Australia, there’s something for everyone. Stroll through our award-winning vineyards, meet the acclaimed winemakers, or lose yourself in conversation over a long lunch that embodies slow food philosophy.”

All up, 500 “social media savvy” people have been chosen to travel to Canberra in order to participate in a number of events designed to showcase the best that Canberra has to offer in tourism. Winners are delegated to one of 4 ‘streams’ – Arts & Culture, Adventure, Family fun, or Food & Wine –  for 3 days and 2 nights, all expenses paid.  So that The Sparky and I will be gourmeting our way around the Nation’s Capital in 2 weeks time.

I have only been to Canberra once in my life. It was  on a ‘mystery flight’ in 1992 and we got to race around Canberra for a whole 5 hours. So as you can imagine I can hardly wait to get myself there. I’ll be taking lots of photographs and sharing them via Twitter, my Facebook page and through my little blog.

So if, by any chance, I get some free time, and you have any suggestions on what I should do with this ‘free time’, I will be happy to take a little break from stuffing myself and shopping for gourmet goodies to take up your suggestions. Go for it, Canberrans!

  1. That’s me! I live in the award winning vineyards (strictly speaking in NSW) hope you get to the Waterfront for a posh dinner and if you come out my way give me a hoy!!

  2. Oh well done. Sounds great! In your spare time you should/could visit the Botanical Gardens, The Bus Depot market in Kingston, The Book Grocer in Kingston, Beaver Gallery in Deakin, the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, and of course, New Parliament House.
That should keep you out of mischief, and your nose to the grindstone, and be a lot of fun too.

  3. Have a great time! I put my name down for that but unfortunately missed out. Don’t forget to go up Black Mountain for a spectacular view!

Something to say?
